Sara Schmitz, O.D.
Born and raised in Southern Illinois, Dr. Sara Schmitz earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemistry at Southern Illinois University in Carbondale and her Doctor of Optometry degree from the University of Missouri – St. Louis College of Optometry. Dr. Schmitz joined Overland Optical Family Eye Care in 2007 and enjoys providing all her patients with a personalized experience and examination to match each one of their unique eye care needs.
With over 15 years of clinical experience practicing full-scope Optometry, Dr. Schmitz ensures that patients receive the highest level of eye care possible. She provides comprehensive eye exams for the whole family; including prescribing glasses, contact lenses, specialty contact lenses, but also performing diabetic eye exams, and assessing and treating eye conditions such as glaucoma, dry eye, ocular allergies, macular degeneration, and eye emergencies.

During her spare time, Dr. Schmitz loves traveling, especially anywhere near the ocean, and spending time with her husband, daughter, and two fur babies. Dr. Schmitz and her family are big fans of all the St. Louis sports teams and enjoy cheering on the Cardinals and most especially, the Blues! She actively contributes to her community, particularly by supporting schools, animal shelters, Foundation Fighting Blindness, and St. Jude’s, among other organizations.
Dr. Schmitz is currently a member of the American Optometric Association (AOA), Missouri Optometric Association (MOA), the St. Louis Optometric Society (SLOS), and the Heart of America.
