eye health & vision care

Getting eye exams on a regular basis is an important part of overall health care

Our expert St. Louis and St. Charles eye doctors use diagnostic technology to detect early signs of eye diseases and other medical conditions that can affect your vision and overall health.

Many eye diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts, and macular degeneration, have no symptoms in the early stages. Regular eye exams can help identify these conditions before they progress and cause irreversible damage and vision loss. In addition to detecting eye diseases, eye exams can also uncover signs of other underlying health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and even certain cancers.

Eye Exams

What do eye exams include?

During your eye exam, our gentle, professional optometrist will assess your vision and screen for eye diseases or other conditions. Recommended treatment may include prescription eyeglasses or contact lenses, sun protection, eye drops or prescription medications, in-office procedures, or referrals to specialists.

How long does an eye exam take?

Eye exams typically take between 30–45 minutes. After the exam is completed, your Overland Optical Family Eye Care optometrist will discuss test results with you and recommend any necessary follow-up care or treatment options.

Is it necessary for the doctor to dilate my pupils during the exam?

We offer Optomap® retinal exams that provide a more detailed view of your retina compared to other methods. You may not need to get your eyes dilated during your appointment, depending on the scan results, with the Optomap® images.

Do I have to have that puff of air in my eyes?

No, we use a non-invasive tonometer to measure eye pressure at Overland Optical Family Eye Care. There is no dreaded “puff of air” test.
